“Based on what we know at this point, we expect to authorize launch by mid-January,” Mary Kay Bean, spokesperson for the MGCB, told MI Bets.

Additionally, the MGCB announced Thursday that it has approved provisional licenses for 15 different platform providers supporting the commercial and tribal casinos’ sportsbooks and casinos.

“The MGCB now can approve provisional licenses following the filing of the administrative rules for online gaming and sports betting Dec. 2 with the Office of the Great Seal,” Richard S. Kalm, MGCB executive director, said in a press release. “The platform providers still must meet other regulatory requirements before online gaming and sports betting can launch in Michigan. The launch date will depend on how quickly they can fulfill the requirements.”

In order to go live, the platform providers still have to complete a handful of regulatory requirements, including testing of their platform and games by an independent company and securing MGCB’s approval of internal controls. Each company has to secure occupational licenses for key employees.

“The platform providers’ ability to meet the requirements of the laws and rules will determine which entities can be licensed for launch first,” Kalm said.

Additionally, the MGCB has allowed the platform providers and operators to release their apps, which Michigan residents can download. They are also allowed to set up and create their accounts, but wagers cannot be accepted until MGCB grants approval.
